Hexham town centre

Hexham is a small market town with a population of around 13,100 people, named as one of the 50 best towns and suburbs in the UK by the Sunday Times in March 2015.

The easy links with Newcastle, the high quality of the landscape in which it sits, the range of amenities and the wide range of cultural and leisure opportunities make Hexham a great place to live and work. However the town also includes Hexham East, the most deprived ward in West Northumberland.

Hexham Community Partnership works with a wide range of individuals and organisations in the community promoting and supporting community development and regeneration. We are the only organisation in the area bringing together representatives of so many community organisations and we produce a town newsletter three times a year with input from any of these organisations, helping to spread the word about the latest topics of local interest to the whole community.

We organise a number of events in the town each year involving local community group and traders, as well as some from further afield. We also work with other event organisers and coordinate the Hexham Town Diary – a useful tool for planning your year.  Follow this link for details of how to get involved as a stall holder, participant or volunteer.  Click here to add an event to the Town Diary

We are proud of the part we have played in the success of the Hexham East Regeneration project – Number 28, which was established in 2008 and which has helped to attract significant funding to the town. The community house now plays a central role in the life of that part of the town offering information, support and a range of groups and activities FREE to all local residents.

In 2013 it became clear that there was an increasing need for a local food bank to serve the west of the county and, working with Northumberland County Council, West Northumberland Children’s Centres, churches and supermarkets as well as many individual volunteers we have helped to establish the West Northumberland Food Bank.

Our activities link closely with Hexham Town Plan 2013 -18, and members of the Partnership have been involved at all stages in its development and implementation. For details of the Town Plan please look here

We work as local partners for a number of organisations, for example helping to raise awareness  of the introduction of free parking in the town in April 2014. [Northumberland County Council]

Most of the projects and activities taking place in the town depend on the work of volunteers. To get involved go to our volunteering page which contains more information.

The town benefits from a large number of local organisations – covering almost any area of interest – visit our local links page to find the one you need.
