By day Hexham is a picturesque market town but for one night each year it reveals its darker side. Spook Night on Saturday 29 October is a celebration of all things ghostly, magical and just plain strange.
That night the town will be filled with weird characters; witches, ghouls, shapeshifters and perhaps the odd mummy. Try not to worry too much – they’ll all be heading for the fancy dress competitions (under eights, over eights and adult categories) in the Abbey Cloisters ... or will they?
Stroll around Hexham’s historic streets and hear strange tales of ghostly terror, written and performed by students of Queen Elizabeth High School.
Don’t forget your turnip and pumpkin lanterns. There’s a competition for the best one.

Thrills are guaranteed as Beaumont Street and the Market Place are transformed into a spooky fun fair with a wide range of rides including, of course, the Ghost Train. Try not to get carried away!
If you need some sustenance after all that screaming, you’ll find plenty of hot and cold food, plus some Halloween specials on sale in the Market Place.
